Color Street mistakes can make a great product seem less than great. If you have tried Color Street and you’re not sure what all the fuss is about, then maybe you are making one of these five Color Street mistakes.
So, what are the top 5 Color Street Mistakes?
Mistake #1: Too hot
If you use Color Street when the strips are too warm, then they will be meltingly soft, almost gummy. You will have difficulty removing them from the package, and they will be hard to apply.
Quick Fix:
If your Color Street was left in your mailbox on a hot day, or you accidentally left them in your car, then just pop the unopened package in the freezer for a few minutes to firm them up. But don’t leave them in there too long, because it’s also an issue if they are…
Mistake #2: Too cold
If your package of Color Street is too cold, then the nail strips will be stiff and will be difficult to apply. They will have difficulty adhering to your nails. So, how to warm them without overdoing it?
Quick Fix:
You will likely have the best results if the Color Street nail strips are at warm room temperature. Try placing an unopened package under your thigh for a few minutes, until it no longer feels cold to the touch.
Mistake #3: Skipping hand care
If you have used Color Street before, you may have seen it’s almost magical ability to cover up a myriad of “nail sins.” Small nicks or other imperfections are usually covered over with no issue- especially if you choose a glitter shade of Color Street. But that doesn’t mean you can ignore your hands entirely.
Quick Fix:
Moisturize regularly – I like this one in particular. Gently file your nails – and if you buff, do so with care, not force. Drink enough water. Push – don’t trim – your cuticles back. Here are few more nail care tips to keep in mind.
Mistake #4: Water or lotion after applying
Moisturizing your hands is an important step in hand and nail care – but it is important to not do it immediately after applying Color Street. It is also necessary to wait at least 30 minutes – and ideally overnight – before submerging your hands in water (think: washing a sink full of dishes, or bathing a child).
Quick Fix:
For these reasons, you should consider applying Color Street at night. I often apply my manicure right before I go to bed. Unlike with traditional polish, there is no strong smell – and no worries about smudging your nails or spilling polish on your sheets. You should also find that overnight, your Color Street manicure will harden and “cure” – making it even more durable.
Mistake #5: Not using a rubber-tipped cuticle pusher to apply solids
If your first set of Color Street was a glitter, then you have experienced how foolproof – and forgiving – applying a Color Street manicure can be. If you have heard that applying Color Street solids is hard to do – then I’ll let you in on a little secret.
Quick Fix:
You need one of these – a rubber-tipped cuticle pusher. Sure, you can prep your nails by using it to push down your cuticles, but the real power of this simple little tool lies in its ability to cleanly – yet gently – press solid nail polish strips onto your fingers. If you have struggled to press out wrinkles be sure the nail strip makes it all the way to the edge, then try this simple tool to make it much easier.
